Supplies and Materials

As a travel journal lover and curious creative, I’m always looking for new ways to capture my travels in creative and unique ways. There’s no travel journaling without the journal and at least a pen. Of course, you can use a 50 cent notebook and a Bic pen and be super creative and capture your trip in incredible ways (you should try that, its a great exercise in creative restriction) but so much of the fun of travel journaling is experimenting with new materials to capture your trip in new and interesting ways.

My journaling jumped leaps and bounds after I invested in a portable printer to carry with me and a home printer that prints beautiful color photos to use when I got home. I finally had a journal that had more than just text! I also will never forget the day I tried a Micron pen for the first time and the smoothness of the line inspired me to try new hand lettering techniques. Each new material I try brings out a different side of my creativity and makes my journals that much better. I hope they will do the same for you.

In my experimenting I’ve found materials that I’ve loved and has transformed my journalling practice, and others that I thought would do the same, but were not worth the money. I don’t want you to have to do that same. There are also so many different supplies out there, when I started out I found it intimidating to decide which to choose. But after I tested, there was often a clear winner.

When friends come to me asking which journal is right for them or if I’ve found any new unique supplies (I’m always on the hunt) I use this resource to help them find a new material that is just right for them. I’ve also given a lot of these recommendations as gifts, which has always been a hit.

I hope these materials and recommendations help you and inspire you as much as they have me!
